Philippines, November 2024 - THE BLUE CIRCLE and its partner ACCIONA ENERGÍA marked a significant milestone in the Philippines' renewable energy sector with the groundbreaking ceremony of the Kalayaan 2 Wind Farm on November 13, 2024. The ceremony, held in the municipalities of Kalayaan and Paete in Laguna province, brought together key stakeholders from government agencies and financial institutions, underlining the strong support for renewable energy development in the Philippines.

The groundbreaking event was attended by distinguished guests including representatives from the Department of Energy (DOE), Board of Investments (BOI), Congressional leadership, Laguna Lake Development Authority, Enterprise Singapore, and partner banking institutions. Their presence demonstrated the broad-based support for this significant renewable energy project.

The Kalayaan 2 Wind Farm, representing an investment of approximately ₱8.7 billion (US$150 million), will feature 17 Goldwind GW165 GW wind turbines, for a total capacity of 100.8 MW. Upon completion in 2026, the facility will generate enough clean energy to power approximately 85,000 Filipino homes while preventing the emission of 320,000 tons of CO₂ annually. This project marks the first phase of the ambitious 350 MW Kalayaan Project, setting a new benchmark for renewable energy development in the region.

The Kalayaan 2 Wind Farm plays a crucial role in supporting the Philippine Government's renewable energy targets, which aim to increase the share of renewables in the energy mix to 35% by 2030 and 50% by 2040.

The Blue Circle together with its partner ACCIONA Energia continue to strengthen its renewable energy portfolio in the Philippines with several projects under development, including the second phase of Kalayaan (249 MW), the Baao Wind Energy Project in Camarines Sur (210.8 MW), and the Ibajay Wind Energy Project in Aklan and Antique provinces (80.6 MW).

ACCIONA Energía, recognized as the world's greenest power generation company for nine consecutive years, brings its global expertise of over 14 GW of total installed capacity to this project. Meanwhile, The Blue Circle, with its portfolio exceeding 2.5 GW of attributable capacity in renewable energy projects under development or construction in the Philippines, is part of the leading clean energy players in the country and is committed to the country's sustainable energy future.
